be opposed to the petition as there are signatories in its
support. He points out that only two members of the Court of
the College of Medicine (viz.:- Dr. F. W. Clark and Dr. R. M.
Gibson) have signed it, while Drs. G. P. Jordan, J. W. Noble,
V. B. A. Moore and H. G. Hobson, and Mr. A. C. Franklin all
members of the Senate have refrained from signing, and that
"five Masters of Queen's College and others whose concern in
the University is somewhat remote and who have done nothing
by subscription or otherwise to promote its interests are
signatories of the Petition". Dr. Jordan personally informed
ine that it was at his urgent instance that the Senate of the
College of Medicine had not as was at first their intention
- presented the petition as emanating from themselves, and
had decided to present it as from the community at large.
I may perhaps venture to express my
surprise that a distinguished member of the Senate of the
London University should have prepared a Memorandum for the
purpose of the petitioners without any reference to myself or
enquiry as to the reasons why a particular course of action
had been adopted by the Government and Legislature of the
Colony.
